Nearly 650 Million Zip Code API Calls

What started as a need to get zip code data is a Zip Code API used by companies big and small. We are about to hit nearly 650 million zip code API calls.

The uses range from business needs to know the distance between zip codes, to improving website user interfaces by auto-filling city and state when a user enters a zip code. There are many more that are described here.

We set up a business model where users can make a small number of calls every hour for free and many have been doing it for a long time. There have been over 8,000 free apps which have made over 100 million zip code API calls. They are typically small companies and non-profits.

We’re about to have our 500th paying customer! Some customers have more than one app as that number is up to 565 apps. Those apps have made over 540 million zip code API calls. Some of the companies are popular including Triumph Motorcycles. Keep an eye on a future blog post for how they use Zip Code API.

Here are some metrics which you may or may not find interesting. We typically get 10,000 – 40,000 API calls per hour. Our busiest time is generally 4-5 pm Eastern and our lightest is 8-9 am Eastern. There are no issues handling spikes in traffic since we’ve load tested with our sister product RedLine13.

If you haven’t done so yet, you can try ZipCodeAPI for free.

And thank you for being part of the ZipCodeAPI community.
